The energy program at the Brits-based agricultural chemicals plant started off with energy mass balancing in order to determine where energy was most likely being used in the operation, and to which extent any immediate cost savings could be implemented. Some of the initial cost savings revolved around the optimal use of air conditioning plants, the lagging of the piping systems in the hot water reticulation process and the installation of daylight harvesting products to reduce the burn time of lights.
A comprehensive factory wide lighting technology exchange program was implemented in a switch to LED technology. Electricity meters were installed at cost centre level in order to improve energy management. Water meters were similarly installed to monitor council supply and enable water leak detection and water management.
