This national logistics company took a measured approach to utilities and installed water meters at one of their large distribution centres. Significant water leaks were identified and fixed which resulted in savings of millions of Rand in the process. Electricity meters were similarly installed nationally, enabling the client to check electricity bills received from various municipalities.
This also allowed for a better understanding of energy consumption. Power Factor Correction (PFC) units were installed at some of the locations, thereby reducing the kVA demand costs imposed by electricity tariffs. The monitoring of water and electricity is an ongoing process.
