A long-term view on energy cost and availability determines the structured implementation of energy projects at this manufacturing business. The initial energy project was a lighting technology exchange program whereby several hundred 400W mercury vapour light fittings were replaced with more efficient lighting technology. The revised load profile was analysed. Based on this analysis, a solar PV plant was installed to shift some of the electricity purchased from the City of Tshwane to renewable energy.
At the same time, a Power Factor Correction (PFC) unit was installed to reduce electricity bill demand costs. More recently, the solar PV plant was expanded. An independent electricity profile meter has been installed to ensure that it electricity bill verification is possible.
