JSE-listed Group, Afrimat operates quarries and mineral extraction processes across South Africa. Dabar Energy installed electricity meters at most of the major Afrimat sites. These meter installations enabled and resulted in an accurate historical record of electricity consumption and demand profile data.
This information has proven invaluable for a number of reasons. One of the most important benefits is a consequence of the ability to actually verify electricity accounts received from Eskom and municipalities. This has resulted in several electricity bill queries being successfully resolved with municipalities. Metering electricity consumption makes it possible to understand the electrical load profile of the operation. This provides insight into the power factor at which the profile operates, during which part of the day electricity is used, the peak periods experienced and general efficiency opportunities that might exist.
Dabar Energy installed the required PFC equipment on Afrimat sites. Insight into the Group’s electrical energy consumption enables strategic planning with regards to energy and further informs on the CO2e contribution of consumed electricity.
